Curbside recycling offered in Rossmoor for harmful products

 The door-to-door Universal Waste Collection Program is under way in Rossmoor and is provided by Curbside, Inc., in partnership with the Golden Rain Foundation.

This program makes it possible for all residents to recycle potentially harmful products. Curbside, Inc. collects items that cannot be placed in the trash or recycling bins such as aerosols, batteries (alkaline, NICAD), fluorescent lamps, thermometers and all electronics, such as computers and televisions.

Home pickup is not available for ammunition, medical waste, nuclear/radioactive waste, explosives or commercial chemicals.

Residents can call 1-800-449-7587 to schedule the collection of waste directly from their homes. Participant names and information will be requested. Prior to collection, residents will be sent a special household hazardous waste kit with further instructions, and a bag to help hold the materials safely and securely.

Residents will not be required to be at home when materials are collected, unless in-home assistance with gathering and packing materials is required.

        How to sign up for Comcast Digital Starter Package.

Rossmoor residents who want to sign up with Comcast for the free Digital Starter Package, which began in 2008, need to call Comcast at 1-800-407-2997. When residents call for the package, they need to inform the Comcast customer account executive that they are from Rossmoor.

         Residents who want the free Digital Starter Package will need a digital converter, which is supplied by Comcast free of charge. Comcast will hook up the converter free of charge.

         With the Digital Starter Package, residents will be able to receive all the FM stations they previously received through Comcast, CSPAN-2, the Hallmark channel, local digital broadcast channels, the on-screen interactive guide, MoviePlex, special digital music channels and access to On Demand and Pay-Per-View.

         Residents pay for their cable TV service on their monthly coupon. The charge in 2008 for cable TV service on the coupon is $29 per manor per month. Residents should not receive a bill for the Digital Starter Package. Residents who sign up for additional services, such as HBO or a sports package, will receive a bill from Comcast just for those additional packages.
